REVIEW: Fast & Furious 6 (2013)

Directed by: Justin Lin

Written by: Chris Morgan, Gary Scott Thompson

Starring: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Michelle Rodriguez, Gina Carano, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang

It’s hard to see how Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and their merry band of illegal street-racing, bank-robbing, best buds can keep on getting even fastererer and furiouserer but, in their sixth film in the hugely successful Fast and Furious franchise, they’ve made a damn fine attempt at it. The sixth film in a franchise built ostensibly on tough guys driving fast cars has no right to be this exhilarating. A winning combination of audacious set pieces, outrageous stunts, brawny banter and plot twists, Fast & Furious 6 unleashes more than just an incongruous ampersand, blowing its predecessors out of the water on every count.

Movie of the Day: Daybreakers (2009) 31.03.13

HAPPY EASTER!! (I could have chosen something like ‘HOP’ but who wants to hear about that?)

Welcome to Generic’s ‘Movie of the Day,’ where we concentrate on one good movie per day with a short review.

Spoiler Warning: Although we’ll try our hardest to not give away the ending in these short reviews, we can’t guarantee we won’t give anything away at all!

Today’s movie is the vampire movie with a difference ‘Daybreakers.’

In a world where Vampires are farming the last remaining humans for blood, one vamp pities a group of humans and helps them to survive at risk of his own life.

“Another Vampire flick,” I hear you sigh, and I feel your pain. With ‘Fright Night,’ ‘Twilight,’ and all the other useless modern Vamp films in circulation, we’ve got used to not expecting a lot when optimistically subjecting ourselves to them. So I present you with ‘Daybreakers,’ a movie you may have overlooked in 2009, but one that’s definitely worth a visit.

REVIEW: Skyfall (2012)

Review by Mike Shawcross.

Directed by: Sam Mendes

Blu Ray SteelBook50 Years of James Bond, really that is quite a remarkable anniversary for a film franchise. Since 1962 when the world was introduced to Bond; James Bond, we have coveted this spy, this debonair gentleman, this ladies man, this hero of the silver screen.  Men have wanted to be him, woman want to be with him, he is a true icon of the film world.Yet the films have been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs and eventually they stopped the car and started it on a new track. The 21st film Casino Royale; was the new track the Bond franchise needed, and along with it came a new Bond, Daniel Craig.

Movie of the Day: Crank (2006) 20.02.13

Welcome to Generic’s ‘Movie of the Day,’ where we concentrate on one good movie per day with a short review.

I’m going to get some stick for this. Today’s movie is the non-stop adrenaline-filled thrill ride that is Crank.

crank-movie-stills24Professional assassin Chev Chelios learns his rival has injected him with a poison that will kill him if his heart rate drops.

When hitman Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) gets injected with a Chinese poison that slows, and eventually stops, his heart, he sets out to find a cure and get revenge on the man who did this to him, before his heart gives up completely. To do this he must do anything, and everything, to keep his heart beating along the way. This provides the setup for some of the most batsh*t crazy events and action set pieces ever seen on film.

Movie of the Day: Terminator 2:Judgment Day (1991) 17.02.13

Welcome to Generic’s ‘Movie of the Day,’ where we concentrate on one good movie per day with a short review.

Today’s movie is the sequel to the Movie of the Day from a couple of days ago, and my personal favourite film of all time, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He told you he’d be back!.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the Terminator, this time reprogrammed and sent back in time to protect the now-teenage John Connor, future leader of the human resistance, from an upgraded and even deadlier machine.
